Mountaineering has a long and illustrious history. From the first recorded ascent of the Matterhorn in 1865 by Edward Whymper, to the summit of Mount Everest by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay in 1953, mountaineers have pushed the limits of what was once thought to be impossible. These epic feats represent some of the greatest achievements in mountaineering.
